Alliances for Education and Enterprises

Alliances for Innovation aim to strengthen Europe’s innovation capacity by boosting innovation through cooperation and flow of knowledge among higher education, vocational education and training, and the broader socio-economic, including research.

They aim to boost the provision of new skills and address skills mismatches by designing and creating new curricula for higher education and vocational education and training, supporting the development of a sense of initiative and entrepreneurial mind-sets in the EU.

Objectives of the action

These partnerships shall implement a coherent and comprehensive set of sectoral or cross-sectoral activities.

To boost innovation, the focus will be on talent and skills development. Firstly, digital competences have become increasingly important in all job profiles across the entire labour market. Secondly, the transition to a circular and greener economy needs to be underpinned by changes to qualifications and national education and training curricula to meet emerging professional needs for green skills and sustainable development.

Aims:

Fostering new, innovative and multidisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning: fostering innovation in education design and delivery, teaching methods, assessment techniques, learning environments and/or developing new skills;
Supporting skills development in deep tech domains;
Fostering the setting up of incubators within education and training institutions across Europe;
Fostering corporate social responsibility;
Improving the quality and relevance of skills developed and certified through education and training systems;

Future-proofing historical buildings for the clean energy transition

Deadline: 20 April 2023

Projects results are expected to contribute to all of the following expected outcomes:

Reduction of energy demand by at least 60%, preserving historical and cultural heritage values;
Reduction of on-site construction waste;
Improved lifetime renovation cost effectiveness compared to conventional renovation;
Significant reduction in maintenance costs;
Increased effectiveness and potential for replicability of the proposed solutions.

Scope:

Around a quarter of the existing building stock in Europe was built prior to the middle of the last century. A significant number of these have a poor energy performance and are costly to renovate. Many recently developed renovation approaches are not adapted to the specific requirements of historical buildings.

Proposals are expected to address all of the following:

Deliver standardised renovation approaches and solutions for the deep renovation of historical buildings;
Target building types constructed prior to 1945 that have restrictions regarding changes of their envelope;
Solutions that reduce energy demand in a cost-effective way;
Improve the comfort of the occupants and lower the maintenance cost for building owners;
Explore both internal and external insulation solutions;
Standardised renovation approaches and solutions that are directly replicable for other buildings of the same building type

Critical technologies for the offshore wind farm of the Future

Deadline: 30 March 2023
Project results are expected to contribute to all the following outcomes:

Improved performance of offshore wind turbines and efficient use of marine space.
Reinforced European offshore wind turbine value chain, supporting local companies and creating local jobs and skills.
Reduce the possible impacts of offshore wind turbines on protected species and habitats.
Reduced use of primary raw materials and reduced dependency on scarce raw materials.
Reduction of LCOE and increased sustainability.

Scope:
The projects should exploit improved understanding of the issues related to materials in the upscaling of wind energy turbines/systems;
The transition of the energy system will rely on reducing the overall energy demand and making the energy supply side climate neutral, in current and future climate conditions.
The expected impact, in line with the Strategic Plan, is to contribute to “More efficient, clean, sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply through new solutions for smart grids and energy systems based on more performant renewable energy solutions”.

Innovative technologies for sustainable and decarbonised extraction (RIA)

Deadline: 20 April 2023

A secure supply of sustainable raw materials is crucial for the green and digital transition. Project outcomes will enable achieving the expected impacts of the destination by increasing access to primary raw materials, in particular critical raw materials for EU industrial value chains and strategic sectors.

Projects are expected to contribute to the following outcomes:

Develop innovative technologies for extraction of raw materials in the European Union and increase the domestic EU sourcing of them;
Improve responsible supply of raw materials in line with the EU principles for sustainable raw materials;

Show the potential to reduce the Green House Gases (GHGs) emissions, thus contributing to EU climate neutrality objectives.
Accelerate development of EU domestic raw materials exploration projects integrating innovative technologies.

Scope:
Actions should develop new sustainable concepts and technological solutions, including alternative approaches, for mining of complex or difficult access mineral deposits;
Actions should be driven by industry and raw materials users while prioritising the EU critical raw materials;
And lastly, actions should envisage clustering activities with other relevant select projects co-operation, consultations, joint activities on cross-cutting issues and share the results as well as participating in joint meetings and communication events.

New technologies and solutions for reducing the environmental and climate footprints of RIs

Deadline: 09 March 2023

Project results are expected to contribute to all the following expected outcomes:

reduction of environmental(including climate-related) impacts;
optimisation of resource and energy consumption integrated through the full life cycle of research infrastructures;
increased long-term sustainability of European research infrastructures.

The aim of this topic is to deliver innovative technologies and solutions which reduce the environmental and climate footprint of RIs through the full life cycle of research infrastructures.
Proposals should address the following aspects, as relevant:

new technologies and solutions for research infrastructures enabling transformative resource efficiency and reduction of environmental impacts;
validation and prototyping;
action plans to deploy the new developments at wider scale and ensure their sustainability;
training of RI staff for the operation and use of the new solutions.

Capacity building in the field of sport

Deadline: 22 March 2023

Capacity building projects are international cooperation projects that aim to support sport activities and policies in third countries not associated to the Programme as a way to promote values as well as an educational tool to promote the personal and social development of individuals and build more cohesive communities.

The general objectives are as follows:

raising the capacity of grassroots sport organisations;
promoting social inclusion and positive values through sport;
encouraging the practice of sport and physical activity in Third countries not associated to the Programme;
fostering cooperation across different regions of the world through joint initiatives.

The specific objectives are as follows:

promotion of common values, non-discrimination and gender equality through sport;
development of skills needed to improve the social involvement of disadvantaged groups;
integration of migrants;
post-conflict reconciliation.
