ATM Excellence science and outreach for virtualisation and cybersecure data-sharing

Expected outcome:

Project results are expected to contribute to the following outcomes.

Cost-efficiency: the proposed solutions are expected to report on the potential reduction in infrastructure costs. Potential reduction in infrastructure and the possible creation of competition between future data suppliers will reduce costs;
Capacity: the proposed solutions shall aim at improving capacity and resilience thanks to an increased flexibility of ATS provision to better adapt to traffic demand and make the best use of capacity at network level;
Safety: the proposed solutions are expected to maintain at least the same level of safety as the current ATM system;
Security: The proposed solutions are expected to identify and mitigate the potential security risks deriving from the future data sharing service delivery model.

Scope : The Digital European Sky vision aims at removing the close coupling of ATM service provision to the ATS systems and operational procedures. The challenge is to propose innovative( or unconventional) ideas that will enable data sharing, foster a more dynamic and resilient airspace management and ATM service provision. The proposed solutions shall aim at rationalising and harmonizing the ATM infrastructure while reducing the defragmentation. Virtualisation solutions should aim at completely decoupling ATM service provision from the physical location of the personnel and equipment, while scaling up and down of system performance in quasi-real time, as and when required.

Manufacturing as a Service: Technologies for customised flexible, decentralised production on demand

Deadline: 07 February 2024

Expected outcome:

Easy access to flexible and decentralised manufacturing and remanufacturing capacities, especially for SMEs, reducing the required Investments for manufacturers while enabling them to use more sustainable and circular facilities.
Availability of automation , emerging and digital technologies for the servitisation of manufacturing assets assuring optimal performance, fast configuration and upgrade with minimal downtime, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance via trusted, secure and interoperable cross-company data exchange.
Improved value chain integration through the availability of technologies and models for securely exchanging and leveraging life-cycle data of servitised manufacturing assets, also in view of the reuse and recycle of assets, components and materials.

Scope :

This topic aims at further developing and integrating the technologies needed for the successful implementation of MaaS (distributed system of production where resources are offered as services) allowing to manufacture “on demand” a large choice of customised products, with high flexibility and short lead time, by using distributed facilities as a service and exploiting unused production capacities. The objective will be achieved through platforms for fast data exchange and seamless, data-driven, standards-based automation of inter-company processes beyond the factory boundaries.

Testing and demonstrating transformative solutions to build resilience towards health risks caused by the effects of climate change

Deadline: 20 September 2023

Expected outcome:

Projects are expected to contribute to all of the following outcomes:

regions, local authorities and communities have been involved in development and testing of a whole range of transformative solutions that will help to mitigate the effects of climate change on health and human wellbeing, including making the public health sector more climate resilient and better prepared to mitigate the change related health challenges;
climate resilience solutions that protect human health have been developed, tested and are made largely available.

Scope:

This topic relates to the Mission’s objectives to mobilise at least 150 regions in testing the solutions most locally needed to build climate resilience and to deliver at least 75 deep demonstrations of systemic transformations to climate resilience.

The proposals should test and demonstrate solutions that address both the two aspects below, including in the scope at least some of the individual points related to improve prevention and policy-making and at least some points related to improve preparedness of the health system.

Improved insights into short and long term health effects of climate-related stressors;
Strengthening comprehensive and user friendly epidemiological surveillance and modelling and forecasting tools.

Mission Ocean and Waters and Mission A Soil Deal for Europe – Joint demonstration of approaches and solutions to address nutrient pollution in the landscape-river-sea system in the Mediterranean sea basin

Expected outcome:

This topic contributes to the implementation of the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork Strategy, the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, the Bioeconomy Strategy and the EU Action Plan: ‘ Towards Zero Pollution for Air, Water and Soil’. It addresses the Mission ‘ A Soil Deal for Europe’ .

accelerated uptake of integrated innovative and reproducible approaches to prevent, minimise and remediate soil and water pollution from excess nutrients in the Mediterranean Sea basin;
accelerated uptake of integrated innovative and reproducible approaches to reduce the use of fertilisers and to prevent, minimise and remediate nutrient pollution and reduce ocean and inland water eutrophication;
foundations for future demonstration and upscaling activities on integrated innovative approaches to prevent, minimise and remediate water and soil pollution from excess nutrients, and to reduce the use of fertilisers, in ‘associated regions’;
empowerment of citizens to take action against pollution of soils, water and the ocean.

Scope:

Soils are essential for all life-sustaining processes in our planet. If they are healthy and managed sustainably, they provide many benefits to people, nature and climate. Addressing nutrient pollution is crucial to achieve the objectives of Water Framework Directive, in particular in relation to nutrient losses in agriculture.

Comparative effectiveness research for healthcare interventions in areas of high public health need

Deadline: 19 September 2023 & 11 April 2024

Expected Outcome:

This topic aims at supporting activities that are enabling or contributing to one or several expected impacts of destination 3 “Tackling diseases and reducing disease burden”.

Health policymakers are aware of the healthcare interventions (pharmacological, non-pharmacological or technological interventions;
Health professionals have access to and use the improved clinical guidelines on the optimal treatment of patients and prevention of diseases e.g. through vaccines. Considerations made in the guidelines include the harmonisation and standardisation of care for high burden diseases or conditions throughout Europe, as well as possible individualised needs of patients.
The scientific and clinical communities make effective use of state-of-the-art information, data, technologies, tools and best practices to develop interventions that are sustainable.
Citizens, patients, prescribers, and payers receive more accurate information on available healthcare interventions via ad hoc communication platforms.

Scope:

Effective, affordable and accessible healthcare for diverse population groups is challenging and complex. The pediatric population, including children born preterm, has also its specific needs in specially adjusted therapeutics and early interventions to address emerging health and developmental problems. Similar to the elderly population, the pediatric population is often excluded from many clinical trials that generate the evidence base for healthcare interventions. Women, including pregnant women, are also often under-represented in clinical studies and access to quality healthcare is frequently inadequate. Other population groups with limited access to quality healthcare and/or under-representation in clinical studies include low-income groups, and refugees. Intersectionality within these groups also needs consideration.

Towards a holistic support to children and adolescents’ health and care provisions in an increasingly digital society

Expected outcome:

This topic aims at supporting activities that are enabling or contributing to one or several impacts of destination 1 “Staying healthy in a rapidly changing society. To that end, proposals under this topic should aim for delivering results that are directed at, tailored towards and contributing to all the following expected outcomes:

Children, adolescents and their parent/carers are educated and empowered in prevention strategies involving personalised approaches and solutions to manage, maintain and improve their own health, physical activity, nutrition habits, mental and social well-being.
Children and adolescents, including those from vulnerable contexts, monitor their health risks, adopt healthy lifestyles at home, at school and in the community and interact with their doctors and carers, also through the means of digitally enabled solutions, better health literacy, training and critical thinking.
Thanks to better co-creation, training, digital and health literacy, children, adolescents, parents and carers across Europe access and use person-centred, widely available solutions for children and adolescents health, care and wellbeing, appropriate to a rapidly changing and increasingly digitalised society, also increasing the risk of digital addiction.
